Mary Helen Morris, age 80, of Erie, passed away on her birthday August 2, 2021 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Moses Vaughn and Lillie Lavon Gore Hinton.
Mary loved spending time with family and friends, traveling and helping others. Mary started going to Greater Bethlehem Temple Church at the age of 13. She received the Holy Ghost at the age of 20. She served as a missionary. She was on the tarrying committee, the baptismal committee, and the usher board. She also sung in the choir, worked in the kitchen, was responsible for pastors aid for some time, worked on the cleaning crew and whatever else her hands found to do for the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Dale Morris, Sr., her father who raised her Lavon Hinton Sr., sisters Willie Lee Gore and Gloria Vaughn, brothers Grady Davis, Lavon Hinton Jr., Moses Vaughn Jr. and Joe Vaughn, grandsons Douglas Anthony Lewis, Jr. and Ramone Morris, great-grandson Jamie Thomas Jr.,
Mary will be remembered by her son, Pastor Jimmie Dale Morris, Jr. (Adrianne) of Norristown, Pa., daughters Lillian Barnes (Larry), Ramona Parraway (James), Mary Thomas (Albert), Deneen Morris, Angela Plott (Timothy), all of Erie, stepdaughter Dorthea Noble of Erie, brothers John Davis (Betty), Bishop Wesley Davis (Betty), Roy Hinton, Sam Vaughn(Pat) and Greg Vaughn all of Erie, Desiree Bean (Mack) and Debra Hinton (whom she affectionately call "My Irish Twins"), Glenda Vaughn (Marvin), Geraldine Tate (Eddie), Cynthia Stovall, Kathy Vaughn, Brenda Heidelberg, all of Erie, and Sonya Carter of Woodbridge, Va., sister-in-law Louise Davis of Erie, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Greater Bethlehem Temple Church, 4103 Washington Avenue, Erie, PA 16509, and again on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
The family requests that everyone who attends must wear a mask, whether vaccinated or not.
